Planning

The third step in the Strategic Prevention Framework, planning is where you create the blueprint for your program. This module features our unique logic model wizard that will allow you to create substance-specific logic models, add each contributing factor your program targets, connect data points you have set up in the assessment module, and then assign your community interventions to a contributing factor.

You must set up at least one logic model to maximize the effectiveness of your pSTAR account. You can create as many logic models as you need. We recommend you create a unique logic model for each substance your program addresses.

How to create a logic model.  Click “Create new logic model” . The logic model wizard will prompt you to add contributing factors and community interventions as well as a way to tie it back to an Assessment Data point.

Interventions. Here you should create names for the community interventions and initiatives that you plan to implement in order to achieve your goals and objectives. For example: Responsible Beverage Service Campaign, Social Hosting Initiative, National Drug Facts Week, Red Ribbon Week, Town Hall Series. Users with the permission to edit logic models can add more interventions at any time. We do not recommend you remove Interventions as you will “orphan” the activities previously attached to that intervention and affect your ability to see those activities in the Evaluation module.

Goals
The second part of planning is the creation of goals.  The Goals tool allows you to create a pathway to success.  You will create a monthly goal for each of your target priorities.  Then on a weekly/monthly basis you can determine which of your target priorities you are on track to reaching and which need attention.

The pSTAR system gives you up-to-the minute reports on all your activities reporting on: Goal number, Reported number, Percent completed and number still needed.  You will never be caught unaware that a priority item is not near its goal number again.
